A TRIBUTE TO MRS. SEAY

On Sunday May 28th, 2006 Mrs. Ettra Seay went home to be with the Lord.

I join thousands of people who adored and loved Mrs. Seay in saying farewell to a good woman. Mrs. Ettra Seay coveted no grander title. No one can deny that she earned the title of a good woman. She died in the manner prescribed for a good woman, rich in years and wisdom, surrounded by a loving family, a family of whom she was enormously proud.

Mrs. Ettra Seay was an outstanding educator and was recognized for her professional achievements in the Alabama State Senate (SJR106) upon her retirement August 3, 2000.

Mrs. Seay was a caring and phenomenal teacher for over 35 years. She made a positive difference in the lives of young children. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education Degrees in Elementary Education from Alabama State University and an Educational Specialist Degree in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1976. She was the devoted wife of Attorney Solomon Seay, Jr. who is praised for his many accomplishments as an outstanding attorney, and they are the loving parents of four children, two of whom are deceased, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Seay was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Jack and Jill of America, and the Links, Incorporated; also she was a member of the Alabama Association for young children, Southern Early Childhood Association, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Alabama Education Association, National Education Association, and the National Coalition for Campus Children’s Center.

My wife and I had the privilege and honor of having Mrs. Seay to teach our three children while they matriculated at the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center. Mrs. Seay instilled in all of her kids a desire to learn and a desire for good character. I have often referred to my kids as “Seay Kids”. Mrs. Seay will be missed and never forgotten. Her memory will be kept green by all who had the great good fortune to know her. We loved her dearly.

In the words of my dad, “If you don’t have money at least have class!”
