Griffin Speaks CALHOUN SUPERFOODS
A
few days ago I ran into the owner Greg Calhoun at one of his newest stores
located in the Normandale Shopping Center. He gave me a very warm greeting.
I went on to purchase T-bone steaks at $3.99 a pound. At the time other
stores were selling T-bones at 9.99 a pound. I could go on and on about the
wonderful deals I have found at Calhoun Super Foods but space will not allow
it. Many
years ago Greg Calhoun had a dream. He dreamed that one day he would become
the grocery store tycoon that he is today. Today he is the owner of the
store where he once bagged grocery. Greg Calhoun is truly the American
Dream. Today,
at age 52, Greg Calhoun is the owner of several enterprises. He is one of
Alabama’s wealthiest and most successful African-American businessmen.
Greg Calhoun is also the majority partner in a $150 million joint venture
with Joe and Katherine Jackson, parents of the Jackson Five. When
Greg Calhoun first attempted to purchase his first grocery store he
approached several Montgomery bankers for a loan. The White loan officers
rejected his request. They told him that they had never heard of a Black
grocer. Greg Calhoun later sat on the boards of two of the very same banks
that rejected his loan request. Greg
Calhoun is in my opinion Black Montgomery’s favorite son. He is someone we
all can be proud of. He has been married to Verlyn Calhoun for thirty-three
years. They are the proud parents of three very successful children. He is
also a distinguished member of First Baptist Church where he serves as a
Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. If
you want great customer service and great prices I urge you to visit one of
Greg Calhoun’s Super Food Stores. I am eating T-bone steaks when others
are only dreaming about it, because I shop at Calhoun
Super Foods. Greg
