CHANGE

So you are in a rut. You feel like nothing is going your way. In fact you feel as though it’s you against the world. Don’t worry the solution is simple. You need to make a change. You need to simplify your life.

Several years ago I met an incredible person who had made some incredible changes in his life. He had simplified his life. He did the following things: 1.) He reduced the clutter in his life. 2.) He decreased the amount of time he spent in the grocery store. 3.) He began to shop at Sams and bought things in bulk. 4.) He planted flowers. 5.) He reduced the places where he ran errands. 6.) He decreased the amount of time he spent doing laundry. 7.) He stopped purchasing clothes that needed dry-cleaning. 8.) He moved to a smaller house and got rid of his lawn. 9.) He began to drive a simple car. 10.) He sold his boat. 11.) He stopped the junk mail. 12.) He cancelled his magazine subscriptions. 13.) He stopped the delivery of the newspaper. 14.) He dropped call waiting. 15.) He stopped answering the phone just because it rang. 16.) He stopped answering his doorbell. 17.) He got rid of his cell phone. 18.) He stopped celebrating holidays. 19.) He stopped sending Christmas cards. 20.) He simplified his gift giving. 21.) When he traveled he did it simply. 22.) He vacationed at home. 23.) He got out of debt. 23.) He began to live on half of what he earned. 24.) He changed his buying habits. 25.) He changed the way he shopped. 26.) He reduced his needs for goods and services. 27.) He cut up all but one credit card. 28.) He consolidated his checking accounts. 29.) He taught his kids fiscal responsibility. 30.) He changed his expectations. 31.) He resigned from every organization whose meetings he dreaded. 32.) He began to review his life on a regular basis to keep it simple. 33.) He stopped trying to change people. 34.) He built a very simple wardrobe.

When asked how he learned to do all of the above things, he said that he purchased a book written by Elaine St. James called Simplify Your Life. He had read her previous book Inner Simplicity and fell in love with her ideas. The book became a national bestseller and he recommends it to everyone who wants to make a change in his or her life.

Oprah Winfrey said, “Elaine, You’re our role model.” I have since read Elaine’s incredible book and I must say, “Elaine you have hit the nail on the head!” Thanks to Elaine I have simplified my life. I have begun to look younger. My wife, Debra looked at me the other day and said, “My God I am going to have to get a face-lift soon, because every time I look at you, you look younger and younger.” My response to her was that she didn’t need a face-lift, she should just read, Simplify Your Life and begin to adopt the concepts set forth in that breathtaking book.

In the words of my dad, Dr. Melvin J. Griffin Sr.: So What! Life goes on whether you are here or not!”
