Griffin Speaks CONTROL YOUR TONGUE
The Bit controls the horse. A Rudder controls a ship. A Spark starts a forest fire. The Tongue corrupts the whole person. We must learn to control what we say. Control of one’s tongue is one of the most important necessities in life. The tongue has ruined more lives than anything else. Wars are started because of the tongue. If we fail to control the tongue we will not be able to control the remainder of the body. You may wonder why certain unfortunate things are occurring in your life. Could it be because of something you said? Are you a gossip? Are you too critical? Do you talk behind a person’s back? I was dining a Church’s Chicken on Fairview Avenue a few days ago. Two young women were dining at the adjacent table. A tall woman entered the restaurant and walked over to the two young women and began to have a friendly conversation. I was certain that they were all friends. When the tall woman left the building both young women said simultaneously “I hate that witch!" There was a king who told his servant to “Go out and bring to me the very best thing in the world.” The servant soon returned with a package. The King opened the package and inside was a tongue! The King praised the servant for such a wise selection. The King gave the servant a second order. “You must now go and return to me the very worst thing in the world.” The servant soon returned with another package. The King opened the package and found a tongue! The gift of speech contributes to man’s glory and his downfall. So the next time you are tempted to gossip or say something evil about someone, just remember the Church’s Chicken socialites and speak no evil! In
the words of my dad, Dr. Melvin J. Griffin Sr.: “Don’t
