Griffin Speaks A PERFECT SCORE
One of the most difficult questions that my wife and I faced was should we enroll our children in private school or public school? Most parents want what they believe is in the best interest of their child or children. We decided that we would try public school. I was a product of the North Carolina Public School System and excelled in college and at two prominent law schools. I successfully competed with students that had graduated from some of the most distinguished prep schools in the world. How could I do this if public schools are so bad? We were fortunate enough to enroll our children in the magnet program at Bear Exploration Center, Montgomery’s best-kept secret. We have been very pleased with the results. Our children love it. On Thursday, Alexis came home from school and handed me a slip of paper. She had made a PERFECT SCORE on her math SAT and scored in the 90 percentile on her verbal. We were ecstatic. She also was accepted to Duke University’s 4th/5th Grade Talent Identification Program. The program focuses on the identification, development, and support of talented 4th and 5th graders. The goal of the program is to motivate gifted students to focus on their academic achievement; reward positive performance; disseminate educational information to the gifted student and her family; offer independent learning opportunities for students; and provide an optional above-level testing experience. Having said all that, we look forward to Alexis participation in the program. We hope that she will continue to earn all A(s). We pray that she will succeed at becoming the very best that she can be. She dreams of becoming an Anesthesiologist. When Alexis was six years old we took her to Spelman College. We walked her to her future dormitory Abby Hall. I said now Alexis this is where you will be living your freshman year. Alexis looked at the dormitory building then looked at her mother and me. The next thing we knew Alexis was rolling on the ground crying! I turned to Debra and said isn’t that beautiful she’s so excited about the prospect of becoming a SPELMAN WOMAN!
