Griffin Speaks

THE STATE'S TOP COP

Gregory Oswald Griffin Sr.On Monday, March 8, 2004 Governor Bob Riley appointed my friend Troy King as Attorney General. We gathered in the old House Chambers in the State Capitol to witness the swearing in ceremony. It was a very good day for the state of Alabama. Troy pledged that in his new role as legal advisor to all the people of Alabama, “Our watchword must be fidelity: fidelity to the law, fidelity to those we serve.”

Several people have asked me about our newly appointed attorney general. “What is he like?” “Will he be fair to black people?” “Should we support him when he runs for election?” The answers to those questions are great, yes, and yes!

General Troy King is married to the former Paige Pinson of Montgomery, Alabama. He is the father of one son, Briggs, who was born on August 19, 1997, daughter, Colden, who was born on August 1, 2000, and daughter Asher, who was born on February 24, 2003. General king was born on August 22, 1968, in Elba, Alabama. General King’s official website: http:www.ago.state.al.us

I have written a couple of articles where I suggested that Governor Bob Riley should appoint Troy King as attorney general. I also predicted that Troy King will become Governor in 2011, you do the math. Why do I think Troy will do a great job? Troy King is very honest, intelligent and compassionate. He is known for standing up for what he believes is the right thing to do. Those close to him have often heard him say, “I have to be able to sleep at night.”

As the state’s “Top Cop” General King has a job to do. He is going to prosecute those persons who violate the law. I plan to continue obeying the law. I suggest that you obey the law too. So don’t call me asking, “Greg aren’t you friends with General Troy King?” “Can you help me out?” The only help that I will be able to give you is a few coins for a toothbrush. General King is tough. If you saw him in a fight with an eight hundred pound gorilla and you wanted to help the one most likely to lose, you’d better help the gorilla.
