Griffin Speaks TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST
One of my favorite ministers is my own pastor Rev. Terry McCreary, senior minister of Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama. Another of my favorite ministers is Dr. Robert Schuller, senior minister of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. These two great men have assisted me in dealing with tough times. So much so that life seems like a bowl of cherries even when the going gets tough! In 1983, Dr. Robert H. Schuller wrote a book called Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do! I really enjoyed reading that book. In his book Dr. Schuller demonstrates to the reader how to live a happier, more fulfilling life. Dr. Schuller is of the opinion that it does not matter how difficult life may become, people will ultimately succeed if they place their trust in God. He offers methods to help the reader to cope with whatever is thrown their way: loneliness, poor health, or fear. He teaches the reader how to put things in perspective. Dr. Schuller’s lessons in this book are certain to inspire readers to follow his advice and make a new, positive, beginning. Do you recall a tough time? Do you recall the outcome? Without hearing your story I am almost certain that if you are a tough person you survived that tough time. Exactly what is a tough person? Well let’s see how Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines tough. Tough is defined as: capable of enduring strain, hardship or severe labor. Does that sound like you? I don’t know what your problem is today or what it was yesterday, but I want you to know that there is no substitute for a deep abiding faith. Just let go and let God take care of your problem. Always remember that nowhere in the Bible does it say: place your faith in man. In
the words of my dad, Dr. Melvin J. Griffin Sr.: “Don’t
get a College degree and have scared behind it!” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer. You can read his previous articles by visiting his web page at www.greggriffin.com or write to him at P.O. Box 250194 Montgomery, Alabama 36125-0194. |
