TWO EXCEPTIONAL APPOINTEES

I almost fell out of my chair when I learned that Mayor Bobby Bright had appointed my friend Art Baylor Police Chief. I almost fell out of my chair again when I learned that the Mayor also appointed my friend and fellow church member, Michael Briddell to serve as his Executive Assistant. When I recuperated from the shock I began to reflect and realized that I had no reason to be shocked. I then climbed on my conference table and danced a “JIG”!

Mayor Bright has proven himself to be a mayor for all Montgomerians. He has worked very hard to bridge the racial divide in a very divided city. The appointments of Art Baylor and Michael Briddell have advanced race relations in this city by fifty years. Chief Art Baylor and Executive Assistant Michael Briddell are well qualified.

Arthur Baylor served the city of Montgomery for 21 years. He achieved the rank of major before he retired in 1998 and became chief of security for the Alabama court system. Chief Baylor is well educated holding numerous degrees.

Executive Assistant Michael Briddell is also well qualified. In addition to being well educated and a local celebrity he has his eyes on the community. He is loved in both the black and white WSFA channel 12 viewing audience.

I encourage the city to support both of these gentlemen as they begin their new jobs. Mayor Bright has certainly hit the nail on the head!
