FAITH

Gregory Oswald Griffin Sr.If you want to be a successful person you need to exercise your faith. Have you ever given thought to how many things are beyond your control? We have no control over the actions of others, the economy, and the weather. There are instances where it appears that we may have some control, but in reality there is no control.

Faith is in my humble opinion one of the most powerful forces in the world. If you have faith anything is possible. If you want your faith to grow you must exercise it. Each time you exercise your faith it grows stronger.

In August 1983, I exercised my faith and enrolled in the LL.M (Taxation Program) at Boston University School of Law. A close friend, Sy Holmes drove me to Boston, Massachusetts and paid for my hotel room for one night. I had no money for tuition and no place to stay. In three days, I was a resident assistant living in a fabulous one bedroom Brownstone apartment at 96 Mountfort Street, with a rental value of $1000.00 a month. My rent was paid in exchange for my services as a resident director. I obtained a job as an assistant in the law school library that paid all of my other expenses. All of this was accomplished because I had faith that God would not bring me that far to leave me.

If you have faith and take action, and if you are not flustered by setbacks, almost anything is achievable. A close white friend once asked me how I could be so happy and be a black man living in a racist society. I looked at him and told him “ I got the faith!” If you truly believe that God is for you then who can possibly be against you.

Faith conquers all. Faith is the only road to success. If you were to sit and talk with a person that you consider being a success you will find that he or she posses great faith. It is faith that leads us to knowledge that is true. You must always remember that faith is a state of mind. People with great faith are sometimes viewed as crazy, but when they become a great success everyone then calls them a genius.

Do you have a dream? Does it seem impossible to attain that dream? Well with your last ounce of courage and your last ounce of faith “GO FOR IT!” I did and I thank God every day for his highest gift to man, “FAITH”. Greg Griffin is a free lance writer.
