Griffin Speaks GUESS WHO WON THE LOTTERY
Excitement is not the word that can adequately describe how I felt when I learned that I had won a lottery prize of $300, 000,00. Inside the October 24, 2007 confidential letter from Global Strategy Group LLC was a check for $3,700.00. I was instructed in the letter to give them a call so that they could tell me what I needed to do to collect my money. I was told to contact Richard Smith or Sandra Forbes at 1-613-255-2805 for further details. “Congratulations from all our staff and participating sponsors.” “You have been warned; please keep this document as a confidential letter in order to avoid double identity.” Sincerely, Sarah Atwell Director-Claims and Financial Control Global Strategy Group. I called the 1-613-255-2805 number and a Richard Smith answered the phone. He asked for my reference number and proceeded to tell me that I had won $300,000.00. He told me that I needed to deposit the enclosed check into my bank account and write him a personal check for the $3,700.00 check that he sent to me to pay taxes and insurance on my lottery win. I immediately hung up the phone and called the Attorney General’s Office. I was informed that it was a lottery scam. What the flim flamers wanted me to do was to deposit the bogus check that they sent to me into my personal checking account. By the time the bank realizes that the check is bogus I would have sent the flim flamer $3700 of my personal funds and the bank would have come after me to collect the money that it gave to me for the bogus check. Let’s face it folks “If it sounds too good to be true it probably is!” In the words of my dad: “Stay away from the pig ears and fried pork chops. Eat more fruits and vegetables.” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer. You can read his previous articles by visiting his web page at www.greggriffin.com or write to him at P.O.
