Griffin Speaks I GOT A SECRET
When I was a little boy, one of my favorite television shows was “I’ve Got A Secret”/ The show premiered on June 19, 2952 and ran until April 3, 1967. The panel on the show had to determine a contestant’s “secret”; something that is unusual, amazing, embarrassing or humorous about that contestant. The original host of the show was Gary Moore Game show host Bill Cullen, Henry Morgan, Faye Emerson, actor Jayne Meadows and former Miss America Bess Myerson, succeeded him.
There were two rounds with regular contestants, followed by a celebrity round. Each round the panel attempted to determine the contestant’s “secret.” The hosts would ask each contestant his name and hometown. He would then ask the contestant to whisper his or her secret to him. The secret is revealed to the viewing audience. The host would then give the panel members a clue. Either once the panel guessing it correctly or the host revealing it when the round is over reveals the secret, the host interviews the contestant. The contestant then demonstrates the secret if it could be demonstrated.
This old show reminded me about my own secret to reveal. I have discovered one of the great mysteries of life through a book that one of best friend’s father, Reverend Holmes introduced me to many years ago. The book changed my life. In addition to having wonderful parents, this book was one of the most significant contributors to my success. Because of reading this book, I learned the importance of controlling one’s thoughts. The book was called, “As A Man Thinkieth” and here is what it said, “A man will find that as he alters his thoughts toward things and other people, things and others will alter their thoughts toward him. Let a man radically alter his thoughts and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life. Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are . . The divinity that shapes our ends is in our very self . . all that a man achieves is the direct result of his thoughts! A man can only rise, conquer and achieve by lifting up this thoughts. He can only remain weak and abject and miserable by refusing to lift up his thoughts.”
The mystery revealed to me was “Thought creates reality.” In the words of my dad, “You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer.
