Griffin Speaks JIM
CROW AND ME
Attorney Seay grew up much like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in an upper middle class black family. His mother was a schoolteacher who in those days was the equivalent of a medical doctor and his father was a renowned minister. It was because of this family background that Attorney Solomon Seay refused to allow anyone to dismiss him with the wave of a hand or a shrug of the shoulder. Seays were taught by their parents to never accept second class status.Attorney
Seay’s memoir is full of powerful vignettes; it takes the studious reader
through a multitude of emotions. I laughed, cried, felt fear and at times
wanted to put down the book and kick some tail. This spirited memoir with
its moving, thought-provoking, and powerful vignettes clearly reveals that
freedom is not free. Attorney
Seay and Judge Delores Boyd has written a stellar work that gives full
credence to the old African proverb; “Until
the lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the
hunter.” I give this remarkable book a four star rating and strongly recommend that you add it to your
shopping cart this holiday. In the words of my dad, “You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer.
