LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING

Today I attended a wedding that I will remember the rest of my life. It was one of the most beautiful and touching weddings that I have ever attended. Throughout the ceremony I had to hold back the tears.

The bride I have known for almost five years. A couple of years ago she informed me that she was getting married. She invited me to the wedding and frequently talked about her wedding plans. It was one of the best planned weddings I had ever attended. She was a beautiful bride.

I entered the church and sat down. I looked over the crowd and recognized a few familiar faces. The preacher came down the aisle and then the groom rolled down the aisle in a wheelchair. He had been shot in the face at the age of 19 and permanently paralyzed. The father of four daughters he had been a very athletic individual with Olympic dreams in the sport of track. He and his bride exchanged vows. She sang to him and to my surprise she sounded better than most of the singers on American Idol.

The reception was beautiful and the food was awesome. By the end of the day all I could think about was that popular song: “Love is A Many Splendored Thing.” The lyrics were:

Love is a many-splendored thing,
it’s the April rose that only grows in the early spring,
Love is nature's way of giving a reason to be living,
the golden crown that makes a man a king.
Once on a high and windy hill,
In the morning mist two lovers kissed and the world stood still,
Then your fingers touched my silent heart and taught it how to sing,
Yes, true love's a many-splendored thing.

For those of you who are still waiting to find that someone special, think about how splendored love is. He or she may be right in front of your eyes, but you fail to see them because God has presented them to you in a package that you did not anticipate.
