Griffin Speaks MICHELLE OBAMA'S NEW CLOTHES
As
I sat and listened to the fashion experts’ talk about the First Lady’s
clothes I was reminded of Danish author, Hans Christian Anderson. He wrote a
fairy tale, which is a splendid example of political correctness. It is a
story about human nature. The
emperor of a booming city who is infatuated with clothes hires two con
artist who promise him the finest suit of clothes that money could buy. They
promise to make the clothes from magical cloth. This cloth, they tell the
emperor, is invisible to anyone who was either stupid or unfit for his
position. The emperor could not see the magical cloth, but pretended to see
it for fear of appearing stupid; his right hand men do the same. When the
con artist tell the emperor that they have finished his suit of clothes,
they pretend to dress him. The emperor goes out into public and parades
through the town showing off his new clothes that are invisible. There was
no one in the crowd willing to say anything because everyone thinks that if
they cannot see the clothes then they are stupid or at least others will
think that they are. The farce continues until a small child yells out, “The
emperor is Buck Naked!” Let
us not get caught up with beautiful clothes when Rome is burning! Who gives
a rat’s tale what the First Lady wears? Fix
the economy! In the words of my dad, “You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer. You can read his previous articles by visiting his web page at www.greggriffin.com or write to him at P.O. Box 250194 Montgomery, Alabama 36125-0194. |
