NIX FAMILY BOOK SIGNING

Around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Hall Street Baptist Church (700 Hall Street, Montgomery, AL), the Reverend Dr. Echol Nix, Sr. and Rev. Dr. Echol Nix, Jr. (father and son) will have a book signing for their new book, soon to be released by NewSouth Books. The title of the book is: The Inspiration of the Holy Spirit and it is a book of sermons. Another co-author, whose name will also be on the cover, is Mrs. Annie Mae Nix, who contributed a chapter.

Mrs. Nix was not a licensed or ordained minister but she was a witness who thoroughly enjoyed sharing her testimony of God's goodness and grace to everyone, everywhere. The authors began writing the book many years ago and it is a dream come true. The sermons by the author and co-authors are different in style but illustrate biblical verses by drawing on their unique experiences and perspectives. The sermons are meant to teach and reach all audiences, regardless of race, gender, or denomination. Preaching is a tremendous task and the minister who undertakes such a major responsibility shares a message from his or her own knowledge, interpretations, and experiences. As such, the authors present these sermons in a way that addresses the deepest need and aspirations of the human spirit.

The book offers good news and hope for today, despite depressing news and bad reports. The Inspiration of the Holy Spirit provides both inspiration and information. This book should be in everybody's home. The cost is only $20 for paperback and $30 for hardback. The book signing will take place, immediately after the morning worship service and Rev. Dr. Echol Nix, Jr. will be morning preacher. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. About the Author and Co-Authors: Rev. Dr. Echol Lee Nix, Sr. is a distinguished educator, counselor, former pastor, and evangelist. At an early age, he learned the valuable lessons of hard work, commitment, and sacrifice. He vigorously embraced opportunities to better himself and rose from rural and humble beginnings in Montevallo, Alabama. He has held several teaching and administrative positions at secondary schools and at colleges and universities, including Carver, Lee, Texas A& M, Selma University, and Alabama State University.

Rev. Dr. Echol Nix, Jr. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina. He serves on the Board of the Baptist World Alliance (Commission on Ethics), the North American Paul Tillich Society (American Academy of Religion) and is a member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Greenville. He is a native son and graduated from Carver High School. Mrs. Annie Mae Nix was an amazing and wonderful woman. She inspired countless people with her powerful testimony and her personal example of courage, faith, and hope. She had the ability to “walk with kings and queens but did not lose the common touch.” She was a pillar of strength for her family, for her church, and for her community. In fact, Mrs. Nix was an inspiration to all. She not only “talked the talk” of being a faithful believer, she “walked the walk” by loving God with all her heart, mind, and soul and by living a good life through dedicated service to others. She was the kind of person King Solomon had in mind when he described a virtuous woman as “more precious than rubies and who reaches her hand out to the needy. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

The Reverend Dr. Echol Nix is a personal friend of mine. This young man who I believe will rise to the stature of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has lived his life as if he is the only example for those around him and his actions are rule of law for them to follow. He has done his best to leave a positive mark wherever he has passed. He always improves himself as a person and raises the general well being of those around him. I strongly recommend that you attend this historic book signing.

In the words of my dad, You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.”
