PORKY PIG II

About ten years ago I wrote an article titled “Porky Pig”. In that article I stressed the importance of exercise and diet in the process of losing weight and obtaining a better body. Several of my readers praised the article and some were angry because they thought that I was talking about them personally. One reader who appeared to weigh about 400 pounds stopped me downtown and asked if I was talking about her. I said of course not, why would you think such a thing? She smiled and said “good” I just wasn’t sure; you know that I am a little on the heavy side.

Today ten years later I am still concerned about the number of obese people that are simply eating themselves to death. I strongly recommend that anyone desiring to lose weight purchase from a bookstore or check out from your local library Dr. Arthur Agatston’s book The South Beach Diet.

The world-renowned cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston created this wonderful diet for the benefit of his cardiac patients. It has been a popular diet for many years because it is a very effective way to lose weight and keep it off. This wonderful diet teaches you how to eat the proper amount of carbs and fats. The diet will help you to control your cholesterol and prevent diabetes. It is a three-phase diet. In phase one you will quickly lose 8 to 13 pounds as you eliminate sweets and carbs for the first two weeks. In phase two you are allowed to return some of your favorite foods into your diet. You will continue to lose weight only at a slower pace until you reach your target goal. In phase three you will maintain your target weight and maintain your good health and vitality. If you can’t afford to purchase a paperback copy of the South Beach Diet for approximately $8.00 then simply take this piece of advice:

Losing weight is really very simple. The hard part of doing anything is getting started. First, you need to know what causes weight gain. You gain weight when you consume more calories than you need. If you consume 3,500 calories and don’t burn it off, you will gain 1 pound. If you want to lose 1 pound then you need to either burn off 3,500 calories or not consume 3,500 calories.

A soft drink has 150 calories in it. If you drink two soft drinks a day, that would average 300 calories per day. In one year you would have consumed 109,500 calories. That would equal 31 pounds. So simply switching to two diet sodas you would drop thirty-one pounds in one year. If you would just pay attention to your intake of fat and calories you would be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Medical Experts tell us that the only thing known to prolong life is exercise. I believe they are correct since I am aware that there are very few obese people in their seventies. Most die in their early fifties and sixties.

You can be one of those beautiful people on television if you simply took better care of your body. Everyone can have a better body. Thinner people look healthier and younger.

So do yourself a favor and take a really good look in the mirror. Are you happy with your appearance or do you look like porky pig? If you would like to do something about your appearance then make up your mind to do something about it. Take action now! Stop walking around looking like “Porky Pig”. Lose the extra weight, you can do it! “YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!

In the words of my dad, You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.”
