T. WILLIAM “BILL” MCINTYRE

A few weeks ago I informed you that my youngest son Christopher and I would be traveling to Dallas, Texas during spring break to visit an old Morehouse College friend, Texas millionaire, T. William “Bill” McIntyre, President and CEO of TWBM Holding Company who I had not seen in 31 years. I had heard rumors about how well Bill McIntyre was doing and I must admit I wasn’t surprised considering he was one of the brightest guys to ever step foot on Morehouse College’s campus (the Bill Gates type). On March 18, 2010 I personally found out just how well this tycoon was doing. My friend Bill McIntyre personally met Christopher and me at the airport. Christopher was so impressed that he met us personally and without his bodyguard although we would later meet him and like him.

It only took about five seconds for us to reconnect. It was as though we had seen each other just hours earlier. Bill McIntyre treated us so well that Christopher said “I now know how it feels to be treated like royalty.” Before going to the McIntyre Compound we stopped by his office located in the luxurious Providence Towers. We met the employees.  I was impressed with the Senior Para legal Shannon and associate Juanita and receptionist Shirley and bodyguard Stevie Brown who also serves as a private investigator. In addition to meeting friends and staff we met two of Bill’s three ex-wives. They were all very nice and happy. We met second wife Beverly a Spelmanite and mother of Bill’s two wonderful sons, Christopher and Carlton. Christopher is such an excellent baseball player he is expected to play professional baseball when he completes college. Carlton is so smart he will probably follow in his dad’s footsteps and take over the many companies which make up TWBM HOLDING COMPANY. We met third wife Chrystal and she too was nice and happy. I could not figure out how ex wives could be so friendly to their former husband.

When we left Bill’s office he treated us to lunch at a place called LUBYS. The food was wonderful. We left Lubys and arrived at The McIntyre Compound a very beautiful home with a golf course in the side yard, an Olympic size swimming pool in the backyard and a basketball court in the center of the right corner of the yard. I thought that Chris would be impressed with the golf course, but he seemed more impressed with the grill that Bill said had blown up after he attempted to grill a pig that he had soaked for two days in rum. I was more impressed with the Golf Course in the side yard. The home was beautifully decorated and the largest bachelor’s pad that I had ever been inside of. You had to find Bill inside the house. I drew a map to find my way around. Christopher and I were given rooms in the upstairs left wing of the house. I loved the 90 foot ceiling in the living room. We were fed home cooked meals prepared by Bill personally. Christopher and I treated Bill and his youngest son Carlton to lunch at the Towers Club an affiliate of the Capital City Club located on the 48th floor in the Thanksgiving Building in downtown Dallas. Once we finished lunch at the club, Christopher and I took the JFK Tour. It was very surreal. I can still recall exactly what I was doing the very moment I learned that President Kennedy had been assassinated. As I looked at the X marked in the street where he was slain I went back to that dreadful moment and became sad once again.

On Friday night Christopher and I prepared a southern fried chicken meal for Bill. Christopher sautéed the green beans and prepared the rice. I fried the chicken and it was wonderful. Bill gave us thumbs up.

On the day before we left Dallas Bill took us to meet some of his other workers, Bobby, Jeff, Toby, Pops and Jackie. They were all delightful people and they all loved Bill. After meeting them we went by the Potters House to see if we could meet with T.D. Jakes but he was not in. We saw Duncanville High School the second largest high school in America.

Christopher was very impressed at how humble Bill McIntyre was. He noticed how he treated everyone he encountered with fairness and respect. He noticed how everyone just fell all over him. It didn’t take long to realize that people were falling all over him not because of extraordinary wealth, but because they loved the guy.

On Sunday after having taken four days off of work to entertain us Bill personally took us back to the airport at Love Field. We all embraced and said our temporary goodbyes. He has promised to visit Montgomery soon. As the plane took off from Love field I looked over at Christopher and asked “So what do you think?” he replied, “Dad I want to be like “Mac!”

In the words of my dad, You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.”
