THE ACT


According to the National Association for College Admission Counseling Admission Trends Survey, ACT test scores are the second-most important tool used in undergraduate admission decisions, after high school grades. The ACT is a curriculum based test which measures the potential college freshman’s academic skills that are taught in high school and considered important for a successful freshman year. The national average: English- 20.7, Math-21.0, Reading-21.5 and Science-21.0. The highest score for the ACT is 36. 

The average score for African American students is 17.0, Hispanic students is 18.7, American Indian/Alaskan Native students is 18.9, Caucasian students is 22.1 and Asian American students 22.6. If you are interested in attending the Ivy League schools you should have an ACT score in the 26-36 range. 

Twenty-five percent of students enrolled in Harvard had a composite ACT score of 31 or less. Seventy –five percent had a composite ACT score of 35 or less. Twenty-five percent of students enrolled in Princeton had a composite ACT score of 30 or less. Seventy-five percent had a composite score of 34 or less. Twenty-five percent of students enrolled in Yale had a composite score of 29 or less and seventy-five percent had a composite score of 34 or less. ACT scores are accepted at all of the major colleges and universities in America. 

The following dates remain in this year to take the test: June 12, 2010, September 11, 2010, October 23, 2010 and December 11, 2010.
