THE HAITI EARTHQUAKE

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m. approximately 200,000 people lost their lives when a major earthquake struck Haiti. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake’s epicenter hit just 10 miles west of Porte-au-Prince and its 2 million residents. There were 33 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 4.2 to 5.9. In the blink of an eye, all hell broke loose.

Haiti was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. She won her independence from France on January 1, 1804. There are approximately 10 million people residing in Haiti. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The majority of its citizens 80 percent live under the poverty line. The people live on less than $2 a day.

Adoption is the only hope for many of the Haitian children. There are an estimated 350,000 orphans in the Port-au-Prince area, and the number is steadily increasing. I am asking my many readers throughout the world to open your hearts to these orphaned children and if you are able please adopt!!!

In the words of my dad, You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.”
