Griffin Speaks TRAFFIC STOPS
On each occasion the officer was courteous and let me
go once he determined that I no law had been broken. On each occasion he was
apologetic for any inconvenience he may have caused me. On each occasion I
was in an expensive sports car in the “hood”.
On each occasion it crossed my mind that I may have been racially profiled. I thought about calling my friend the police chief Art Baylor, but I am not yet convinced that I am being racially profiled. Art is doing such a wonderful job as the first African American Police Chief that I don’t want to bother him without being certain that some of his officers are rogue. It just seems so strange that I have been in Montgomery, Alabama since 1987 without being stopped by an officer in 23 years until I start driving an expensive sport Mercedes. You go and figure! In the words of my dad, “You must honor the chair whether it is sitting, walking or lying down.” Greg Griffin is a free lance writer.
